Hot off the success of the now famous (or at least what I like to think is famous) NHL 11 Drinking game comes the new improved and very much the same NHL 13 Drinking Game. You see we like to try and find ways to make EA Sports NHL 13 a little more fun and we tend to get together on weekends off from hockey to indulge ourselves in a nice tournament of beer drinking and video games. Not much has changed from our past rules but we’ve added a few more things in to make the event a little funner and we’ve also added the use of a prop to most certainly make the humility of defeat a little more threatening, or I suppose a little funner.

Onto the NHL 13 Drinking Game

If you havent seen the NHL 11 Drinking Game you’re in luck and I’ll save you some time from having to read the rules by posting the rules again as the NHL 13 drinking game follows somewhat of a similar strategy.

First and foremost the GAMEPLAY AND RULES are as follows:
Default difficulty because we want to score lots of goals. Gameplay speed is maxed out, penalties are on and up a little as you’ll see why later. Offsides on, icings on, and of course fighting is on. Everything else can be tweaked and suited to your style but we don’t tend to spend a lot of time on this because we want to get onto the real challenge of staying awake.

Team selection will be dictated by randomizing at the team selection screen three times. You can not play as either of the all star teams either.

More Importantly the NHL 13 Drinking Rules

The rules of this game are fairly simple, you want to win and you want to keep the play going. Ultimately you’re penalized for any stoppage in play whether it be by giving up a goal, going offside, icing the puck or taking a penalty. Everytime you slow the game down you will drink. Now we always play with beer because at the rate you’re slamming drinks you may end up face down sooner doing shots or drinking the good stuff. We’ve carried over all of the same rules from our previous NHL 11 Drinking game. Lets recap them now.

- You go offside x (you take) 1 drink
- You ice the puck x 1 drink
- Your goalie freezes the puck x 1 drink
- You take a 2 minute penalty x 2 drinks (please remember if you shoot the puck over the glass that’s an extra drink for stopping the play so it will be 3 drinks. two for a two minute penalty and one for stoppage of play)
- You take a 4 minute penalty x 4 drinks
- You take a 5 minute major x 5 drinks

Now the game within the game.

- You score a goal x 1 drink for your opponent
- You win a fight x 5 drinks for your opponent (don’t forget also you both drink 5 regardless for a 5 minute major)
- You hit the post x 1 drink for your opponent (if you hit 2 or 3 posts with one shot it’s x2 or x3 drinks respectively)
- You score on a penalty shot x 1 shot of your choice for your opponent. (We prefer you plan this in advance, our favorite is the Smokers Cough).

The remaining rules from the original game:
A broken stick in play is a sociable (meaning everyone watching and playing drinks)
- At the end of the game the loser drinks the differential in goals. Ex: 9 to 5, loser drinks x 4.
- Winner continues to play and eventually gets eliminated because he/she’s far to shattered.

New Rules to the NHL 13 Drinking Game

The Paint Stick For DrinkingAs we mentioned earlier we’ve added our favorite new prop to the game, the Paint Stick. We decided this year that the loser has to do a paint stick. Now you can handle this one of two ways. You can have a set limit for the paint stick, two, three, four beers so everytime someone loses they just have to paint stick two beers. You can also take the rule we mentioned above about drinking the differential in goals and change that to beers for the paint stick. For example you lose 9 to 4, you paint stick four beers.

Our only other rules we’ve added is if you get checked into the bench you’re on the hook for a shot and if you lose your helmet, much like the stick rule, everyone drinks.

Thats it, thats all. Not a lot has changed with this years NHL 13 drinking game but we feel the right improvements were made to an already exceptional party game for you and your friends. With that comes a warning, be careful and if you suck at NHL13 you probably shouldn’t play to many games because those paint sticks will knock your off. As always we are open to hear your suggestions in our comment section below.
